History
Polkacrest was established in the
South East as a private business during the 1980's.
The business began as a general waste management
company, with a bulk haulage capability, collecting domestic and
industrial waste, including clinical waste.
The company pioneered the introduction of clinical
waste treatment by alternative
heat treatment technology, thereby establishing the company's in-house
disposal capability.
London Waste acquired Polkacrest in the early
1990's and re-organised the company.
All domestic and industrial waste was then handled
by the Sita Group, joint owners of London Waste with the North London
Waste Authority.
Bulk handling and clinical waste remained with
Polkacrest.
Now, bulk handling has been transferred
to London Waste, leaving Polkacrest to concentrate almost solely
on clinical waste management.
